Drama lies
at the heart of the extra-curricular life of Kimbolton School.
We stage a range of productions each year, our programme
being designed to foster an enthusiasm for the theatre in
pupils of all ages.
Diversity
Kimbolton drama is nothing if it is not diverse. From
Chekov’s "The Cherry Orchard" to Cole
Porter’s "Anything Goes" and from Shakespeare
to Lloyd Webber, we seek to give students an appreciation
of the theatre in the widest possible sense.
Opportunity
Pupils of all ages are encouraged to become involved
in Kimbolton drama. Both junior and senior students stage
plays on a regular basis, and these productions are complemented
by frequent whole-school musicals which invariably involve
in excess of a hundred students in some capacity. At Sixth
Form level the Theatre Arts group provides an opportunity
for those with a particular enthusiasm for the stage to
take the lead in direction and production as well as performance,
an opportunity that many find both demanding and fulfilling.
For pupils who do not wish to tread the boards there
is the chance to work backstage on all productions. Lighting,
sound, costumes, make-up, stage management and Front-of-House
all depend on the willing support of volunteers from all
levels of the School. It is our hope that whatever their
aptitude or interest we can find a niche for every student
who wants to become involved in what is the largest of
all Kimbolton’s teams.
Facilities
A majority of productions are staged in the Lewis Hall,
a recently refurbished 400 seat venue containing an impressive
array of modern theatrical equipment and facilities. For
smaller plays and rehearsal work full use is made of a
distinctive Drama Studio.
