Racing Success for Sailors
Kimbolton sailors put in a strong performance at the NSSA annual Youth Regatta.
Our sailing team put in a strong performance at the National School Sailing Association's Youth Regatta during the summer holidays. Nine pupils from our First to Upper Sixth Form joined over 300 young people to take part in the annual event, this year held at Grafham Water from 24-28 July 2017.
After months of meticulous planning, the sailors enjoyed five days of excellent racing thanks to the volunteers from Grafham Water Sailing Club and further afield. With strong winds for most of the week creating exciting and challenging conditions for all, there were some superb performances from the Kimbolton sailors taking part alongside 66 'home team' sailors from throughout Cambridgeshire.
Special mentions go to Priya Auton and Chris Neal who, having only learnt to sail within the last nine months, dealt with the tricky conditions very well. Our outgoing sailing team captain, Tara Butterfield, sailed in the prestigious Mount Haes competition on Wednesday, doing well to progress to the semi finals with her sailing partner.
However, the standout performance of the week was from First Form pupil Ben Knights sailing his Optimist in mixed fleet of similar dinghies. Only one of Ben's race results was outside of the top three, which meant he won the fleet by a considerable margin from his competitors.
Well done to Ben and all of the pupils who took part!
