Daniel Receives Sponsorship from The Duchess of Cornwall

Kimbolton School's Daniel Walls with his letter from the Duchess of CornwallGood luck to Daniel Walls from Year 5 who has organised a sponsored walk in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Hinchingbrooke Hospital Paediatric Diabetes Education Fund on Sunday, 23 September.  Among the many supporters on his personal sponsor sheet is HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Windsor.

Daniel has Type 1 diabetes and wrote to Her Royal Highness, Patron of the JDRF, while organising the event.  While expecting a reply, he was delighted to receive her thanks for his lovely letter along with a cheque to help with his fundraising.

Daniel's mother, Mrs Susan Walls, said, "He was delighted.  It was a lovely thing for The Duchess of Cornwall to do.  It's great that she wants to support the event.  There is a little bit of stigma attached to diabetes because people don't always know about the difference between Type 1 and Type 2."

She added, "The charity encourages people to become youth ambassadors to spread greater awareness about the illness."

Daniel is one of only 400 000 people in the UK to be afflicted by the life-threatening condition which is not caused by lifestyle and cannot be prevented.  He needs multiple daily injections and visits Hinchingbrooke Hospital every three months for check-ups.

The Duchess of Cornwall's letter to Kimbolton School's Daniel WallsThe 1 km and 5 km walk takes place in Hinchingbrooke Country Park from 12.30 pm on Sunday 23 September.  For more information about the event, please email JDRFHuntingdonwalk@aol.com.
