    Spanish - Spring 2018

Our Spanish Masterclass aims to bring together Year 5 children with an interest in modern foreign languages to explore the language and culture of Spain and Latin America. Suitable for complete beginners in the language, plus those who have had a little exposure to it, it is a fast-paced introduction to basic Spanish and its speakers.

This course starts with basic Spanish language skills and is therefore not suitable for those with a number of years of Spanish teaching. Please contact us for advice if you are unsure whether to apply.

The emphasis will be on developing confidence and fluency in speaking, increasing conversational skills and broadening vocabulary.  Pupils can expect to be involved in role-playing, singing Spanish songs and even dancing - all taught by native speakers.

Each week, the course will explore one or more topics, such as:

    • Spanish greetings and sounds
    • Personal identification
    • My family and pets
    • My house
    • At the ice cream shop
    • At the bar or restaurant

One or more of the sessions may include the opportunity to sample Spanish food. It is therefore important that parents/carers include all relevant allergy information on the application form.

The course will be held on the following Saturdays: 24 February, 3, 10 and 17 March 2018.

The timings, including the introductory briefing for parents and the last week presentation, will be:

      Spanish Course
Week(s) Intro Briefing Class Final Presentation
    1 0900-0915 0915-1045
    2  and 3   0900-1030
    4   0900-1030 1030-1045

Although each session is independent of the others, we expect children to attend all of the Masterclasses in their course.  There is no charge but places are limited and we cannot guarantee a place for every child who applies.

We have written to head teachers of participating schools to invite them to nominate suitable children.  The deadline for applications is has now passed and we will let families and schools know about their success (or otherwise) in gaining places by the evening of Monday 5 February 2018.
