Great Result for Senior Maths Team
Kimbolton maths students showed off their problem-solving skills to claim third place in the Regional Finals of the UK Senior Team Mathematics Challenge.
Kimbolton maths students showed off their problem-solving skills to claim third place in the East of England Regional Finals of the UK Senior Team Mathematics Challenge on 18 November.
Sixth Formers James Ellison, Josh Daniels-Holgate, Clifford Robinson and Rebecca Heath travelled to Peterborough to pit their wits again teams from seven other schools in the area.
The three-hour event consisted of three rounds, including a tricky ‘Shuttle’ task in which teams competed against the clock to correctly answer a series of four questions – with the solution to each problem needed in order to move onto the next one.
Miss Helen Morrell, Second in the Maths Department, said: “Despite an average first round, the team scored full marks on the second round and then highly on the third to finish in third place overall – but with the second highest score – just behind joint winners Oundle School and Bourne Grammar School.”
The annual Challenge, now in its seventh year, is organised by the UK Mathematics Trust and the Further Mathematics Support Programme. It attracts entries from around 1,000 schools across the UK each year.
