Kimbolton RAF Cadets Win National Trophy Again
Our team takes prestigious prize for the second year running against fierce competition from other UK regional finalists.
Kimbolton RAF cadets have won the National Finals of the Air Squadron Trophy for the second year running, against fierce competition from 11 other teams.
The Air Squadron Trophy is awarded annually to a 13-strong team of RAF (CCF) cadets who excel in a series of tough tests across eight disciplines, including Fitness, RAF Knowledge, Shooting, Drill and Uniform.
All of the cadets competing had qualified through a series of regional competitions, with the top two teams from each area securing a place in the Finals at RAF Halton.
Kimbolton Cadet Warrant Officer James Wright said: "I must admit that we were not overly confident of retaining the trophy when we started as the opposition look strong. However, the team stepped-up to the mark and really worked well”.
Our Contingent Commander, Squadron Leader Laura Hadden added: “The cadets showed the breadth of their skills by only missing out in the top three places in one event.”
The trophy was presented to our team by Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, Commandant Air Cadets. They will now attend an event at the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden in July where our cadets will be flown in an aircraft operated by members of the Air Squadron.
Our results were:
1st Place in Command Task (led by James Wright)
1st Place in Fitness (James Wright won this individually as well)
1st Place in RAF Knowledge
3rd Place in Shooting
3rd Place in First Aid
3rd Place in Drill
5th Place in Aircraft Recognition
Many congratulations to all of our team: Ben Ayres, Harry Beet, James Boyce, James Burdock, Arthur Clay, James Ellison, James Howlett, Elliott Hughes, William Ingle, Michael Millington, Emily Orme, Oliver White and James Wright.
