Prep Girls' Hockey Teams on Top Form

Our U10A and U9A-D girls' hockey teams celebrate a great set of results in the second half of the season.

Kimbolton School U9 GIrls' Hockey TeamsOur U10 and U9 girls’ hockey teams had some great results last week. At Witham Hall, our U10A team finished runners-up in an eight-school tournament, while our U9 A-D teams went one better to win all of their matches against enthusiastic Stamford sides.

The grit and resilience of our U10A team – Ciara Andrell, Anna Bamford, Lauren Cove, Isabel Davis, Alexandra Gherabi, Sophie Gurnell, Emilia Neale, Eva Spall and Sadie Werrett – shone through in a series of competitive matches. In the first round of the tournament, our players came second in their group on goal difference: 0-0 vs Bedford Girls’, and 1-0 against both Witham Hall and Laxton.

Kimbolton then played in the semi-finals against Stamford Junior, winners of the other group. Another 1-0 victory meant we reached the final – a rematch against Bedford Girls’. After full time, the score was 0-0, with the Kimbolton team having withstood immense pressure, successfully defending a string of short corners.

Team Manager Mrs Caroline Evans said: “The match then went to five minutes of extra time, after this the score was still 0-0. Penalties followed and, by the very narrowest of margins, Bedford ended up the winners: 1 penalty to 0. Our girls were second overall and Mrs Janet O'Brien and I were both incredibly proud of the way they played throughout.”

Playing at home a day later, our U9 A-D teams (with the D team including six U8 girls) took on Stamford for the second time this season. As previously, the level of play was of a high standard from both sides and a pleasure to watch.

Team Manager Mrs Suzanne Neal said: “All of the girls played extremely well, with fantastic team work and determination. The girls put their training to good effect, which ultimately led to lots of scoring opportunities. Stamford must also be commended on their strong defence and for their superb goalkeepers.”
