Kimbolton School Grade 8 MusiciansFour of our most talented Senior School musicians will have their names added to the Honours Board in the Music Rehearsal Room after passing their Grade 8 exams with flying colours. Lower Sixth Formers Oliver Hale and Emma Johnson (both Alto Saxophone), Upper Sixth Former Minjoo Kim (Flute) and Fourth Former Felicity Choy Winters (Cello), all achieved a coveted Distinction for their playing. Mention must also be made of Sherwin Robinson (Violin) who gained a Merit at Grade 8.

Following the ABRSM exams at the end of last term, a total of five new Music Exhibitions were awarded to pupils from the Second Form to the Upper Sixth Form. Exhibitions, in the form of four terms of instrumental tuition funded by the School, are awarded to all Music School pupils who pass exams at Grade 5 or above with a Merit or Distinction. They are open to both Prep and Senior School children. On achieving each higher grade, the Exhibition is re-awarded.

All of our musicians are encouraged to be active members of one or more School ensembles so that, while experiencing the fun of performing with others, their music-making experience and repertoire are extended. Oliver, Emma, Minjoo and Felicity all play in groups including our Orchestra, Little Big Band and Chamber Choir. Minjoo said: “We’re all looking forward to the Summer concert in July; I’ll be playing a solo piece in John Rutter’s Suite Antique.

Here’s the full list of Exhibition award winners – congratulations to you all!

    • Oliver Hale (Alto Saxophone) – Grade 8 Distinction
    • Minjoo Kim (Flute) – Grade 8 Distinction
    • Isabella Hopkins (Clarinet) – Grade 6 Distinction
