    Prep XC County Champions Again!

End of season success at the Cambridgeshire XC Relay Championships.

In a late season ‘curtain closer’ on a cool, bright Wednesday evening, Kimbolton Prep School's sustained success in cross country was highlighted with a third consecutive year of picking up county titles at Priory Park when our girls took top honours in the ‘B’ race at the Cambridgeshire XC Relay Championships.

In vast fields (137 teams in the boys’ event; 107 in the girls’), our 4 x 1200m ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams drew on earlier term experiences, worked very hard for one another, showed good fitness levels (considering they had just arrived back off the holidays!) and growing tactical nous.

Firstly, congratulations must go to girls ‘B’ team (Ruby Lorigan, Kate Hudson, Amelie Skinner, Sophie Gurnell) for winning their race amongst 34 ‘B’ teams (retaining the title we won last year) and, in doing so, coming a highly-creditable 10th overall in 21 mins 29 secs.  You were well-deserving of your medals, girls!

In front of them, our A team (Aoife Stokes, Sophia Taylor, Lauren Cove, Sadie Werrett) finished an excellent 2nd in 20:13 amongst 63 ‘A’ teams – their shields were rightly held high during the presentation!

Our boys were determined not to be outdone by the girls this year and things are looking very promising (half our boys will go again next year) as they signed off their season in style.

Livio Mosca, Callum Daws, Christian Lobo and Lloyd Brownston finished third in 18:50 (also receiving shields) – the highest overall position a boys’ team has achieved for the Prep at an event we first attended in 2015.  Brilliant effort, boys!

Behind them, our ‘B’ team (Freddie Spavins, Gabriel Rushing, Vinnie Mills, Harry Moore) also came third (20:02) in their ‘B’ race out of 43 teams – and 22nd overall – to complete a great afternoon’s running for the Prep.

In adding up the positions in all four races, Kimbolton narrowly pipped Histon and Impington School to the lowest score (37 v 39) making us collectively strongest school on the day.

Congratulations to all involved… indeed, every child, parent and teacher on another season packed with diligence, adventure, talent and plenty of guts!

Report: with thanks to Mr Hart
