Tournament Victory for Prep Hockey Players

Excellent teamwork results in a superb win at Witham Hall.

Excellent teamwork resulted in a superb win at Witham Hall for our Prep U10A girls’ hockey team last week (8 Nov), in an inter-school tournament with a total of eight teams.

The skill and determination of our girls shone through in a series of competitive matches. In the first group round of the tournament, our players beat Bedford Girls School 2-1, Witham 'B' team 1-0 and Laxton 1-0. Kimbolton then played in the semi-finals against St. Anselm's, winners of the other group, which ended in a nerve-wracking 1-1 draw that had to be decided by penalty shuffles. This involves one player going one-on-one with the goalkeeper, with ten seconds to dribble the ball into the 'D' and shoot. There were three penalties taken by each team and we won 2-1. In an exciting final match, we then triumphed 1-0 to win the tournament ahead of Witham Hall 'A' team.

Hockey Coach Mrs Janet O’Brien said: “Special mention goes to Muna Mokah for saving two of the penalties and to Olivia Baldwin, Myla Marshall and Tessa Qualye for stepping up to take them and for staying calm under immense pressure. There was some great defensive work by Anna Ruggiero and amazing attacking by Emily Quayle and Tilley Skinner. Goal of the day goes to Hannah McNish, who scored within 10 seconds of being on the pitch!”

Our U10A team will be in action again this Friday 17 November, when they take on Wellingborough in an away match – details of all our forthcoming sports fixtures and match reports can be found here.
