Prep Pupils Volunteer at Bedford Foodbank
Year 6 pupils help sort out food for future distribution.
Eleven Year 6 pupils spent an afternoon volunteering at the Bedford Foodbank warehouse on Tuesday, 16 January. The afternoon was spent marking up food for immediate use, food for future distribution and also food that was out of date. The Prep pupils worked incredibly hard for two hours and it was a great exercise in team-building, as they worked out the most efficient way to mark-up and organise the food - ending up with a relay system!
Their visit follows on from the Prep's record Harvest Festival collection, back in October 2017, which saw Kimbolton families donate 363.01kg of food, which calculates to 864 meals.
Andrea, the Deputy Foodbank Manager was amazed at the efficiency, enthusiasm and determination of the Prep School youngsters. Year 6 pupil Ethan said: "It was great fun and it felt good that we were helping to make other people's lives better." Fellow pupil Lily added: "I thought it was going to be bigger. It was amazing that everything is sorted by hand."
