Top Five Finish for CCF Equestrian Team
Riders impress at Royal Windsor Horse Show.
Her Majesty The Queen was present to watch Kimbolton School’s CCF equestrian team take fifth place in the Land Rover Services Team Jumping at Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday (12 May).
With 30 military and police teams in the competition, our trio of Joshua Denton, Katie Jackson and Eve Duberly put on an impressive display of precision jumping against riders from the Household Cavalry and Kings Troop, as well as teams from the RAF, Navy and the Defence Force of Bahrain.
The competition was split into two phases, with each rider tackling a testing course of fences in the first round. After this, the six teams with the fewest total penalties (awarded for a knock down or a refusal) each put a rider forward to complete a further course of jumps against the clock.
Mrs Lucy King, Kimbolton School Equestrian Team Manager, said: “All three of our riders jumped incredibly well in the first round, with Katie and Eve putting in two beautiful clears – keeping us in the top six and through to the next round of the competition.”
The final jump off took place after a parade and a salute to the Queen. Our nominated rider, 17-year-old Josh on Donau VDL, jumped brilliantly in front of a 6000-strong crowd, completing his round on just 4 penalties after clipping the final fence. This secured Kimbolton fifth place overall, for a second consecutive year.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is the UK’s largest outdoor show and takes place in the grounds of Windsor Castle. This year’s event, from 9-13 May, included international show jumping, driving, endurance, and an array of showing classes.
Huge congratulations to Josh, Eve and Katie, and a big thank you to Mrs King and the Kimbolton families supporting the team on the day.
