Kate Shortlisted for Photography Prize
Pupil's photograph stands out in Peterborough Cathedral's 900th anniversary competition.
A eye-catching photograph taken by Second Former Kate has been shortlisted in a competition to mark the 900th anniversary of Peterborough Cathedral. The 12-year-old’s image “Reflection”, along with other entries by amateur photographers of all ages, will be on show in the Cathedral visitor centre from 5 December 2018 until 5 February 2019. Visitors to the exhibition will be invited to vote for their favourite entry.
The judges, including experts from the fields of photography, the visual arts, printing and the media, were looking for imaginative and eye-catching images that showed life at the Cathedral in its special year. This could be a fleeting glimpse of light or weather, a moment at a 900th anniversary event, a flash of spiritual insight, or any other unusual viewpoint. Kate's picture of votive candles, which may be lit for loved ones, in gratitude, supplication or any other intention, clearly captures the theme of the competition: “Peterborough Cathedral: A Moment in Time”.
Voting will close on Monday 21 January 2019 and the winners announced during the week of 28 January 2019. Photography club coordinator Mrs Abigail Fearing said: “Kate has been a keen member of our after-school photography club and her beautiful image certainly deserves its place on the shortlist. If you’re in Peterborough during the next few weeks, please do drop in to the cathedral and cast your vote!”
