Kimbolton PPE Delivered to Healthcare Settings

Face shields made by the fantastic staff of our DTE Department plus eyewear from the Sciences have been delivered to healthcare settings in four counties.

Face shields made by the fantastic staff of our DTE Department plus eyewear from the Sciences have been delivered to healthcare settings in four counties.

Aware of the desperate lack of face shields for key workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Kevin Spencer, our Head of Design Technology Engineering Department and himself married to a nurse, made over 500 face shields during the Easter holiday.  As one of the first school departments to respond to the crisis, he was aided by DTE colleague, Mrs Ceri Stokes, his son, Adam (OK 12) plus some current pupils, and used the laser cutter to create parts rapidly.

As well as producing shields and adapting the design to the available materials, Mr Spencer shared it with other schools and provided advice to them as required. The production line continued until they finally ran out of materials.

We have recently finished delivering them to settings including Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Addenbrooke's Hospital, local GP surgeries, the NHS distribution centre at Alconbury Weald, pharmacies, care homes and the East of England Ambulance Service.

In addition, Mr Alastair Gray, our Director of Science, delivered eye protection to local GP surgeries and a care home. Suitable for deep cleaning, they will be able to be reused rather than disposed of.
