    European Day of Languages

Senior School pupils enjoy a packed programme of linguistic and cultural activities.

Bonjour, Hola!, Buongiorno, Guten Morgen…Today (28 Sept) we are celebrating European Day of Languages at the Senior School with a packed programme of linguistic and cultural activities - as well as a delicious lunch with an international theme.

A highlight of the day was the decorated ‘Word Tree’ near the Orangery, covered with words and expressions from around the world to get pupils talking. There were also fun language quizzes during tutor time, and prizes for the three best cakes in an Ingrams ‘European Bake-Off’ competition. Other activities included breakout zone music and MFL surprise lessons, with the usual French and Spanish replaced by lessons in another European language.

A Council of Europe initiative, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since 2001. The main message of the day is that language skills are a necessity and a right for everyone, young and old, opening up opportunities and helping us to understand each other better.

We hope to hold a similar event at the Prep School later in the academic year.
