History and English - Autumn 2019
Our History and English Masterclasses aim to bring together like-minded Year 5 children (Year 6 in the Autumn Term) from local primary schools to explore these subjects in an exciting and innovative way. Based around the theme of the history of Kimbolton Castle, the activity-based sessions aim to foster imagination plus drama and writing skills against the backdrop of the School’s unique historical setting.
In Autumn Term 2019 we will be holding two identical courses (‘Aragon’ and ‘Popham’) of six sessions. The dates are:
- Saturday 7 September : A Medieval Fortified Manor House
- Saturday 14 September : An Imprisoned Queen
- Saturday 21 September : The Earl of Manchester at War
Break for Kimbolton School Open Morning (28 September)
- Saturday 5 October : Kimbolton and the Gunpowder Plot
Break for Kimbolton School Field Weekend (12 October) and Half Term (19 and 26 October)
- Saturday 2 November : The Great Rebuilding – Vanbrugh at Kimbolton
- Saturday 9 November : Pellegrini and Glorious Revolution
Each session runs for one hour with the timings outlined in the table below. The first meeting will start with a short briefing for parents.
|Aragon Course||Popham Course|
|Week(s)||Intro Briefing||Class||Final Presentation||Intro Briefing||Class||Final Presentation|
|2 to 5||0900-1000||1030-1130|
Although each session is independent of the others, we expect children to attend all of the Masterclasses in their course. There is no charge but places are limited and we cannot guarantee a place for every child who applies.
We have written to head teachers of participating schools to invite them to nominate suitable children. The deadline for applications is has now passed; we will confirm offers of places by the evening of Thursday 11 July. Our next series after this one will be for 2019-20 Year 5 pupils in Spring Term 2020 and we will write to head teachers of participating schools in November.
Joining instructions for successful applicants plus an aide-memoire for parents will be added below in July.
