How to Apply
Kimbolton School is an independent HMC co-educational day and boarding for 4-18 year olds; boarding starts at age 11.
We are a selective school and accept pupils of all ages subject to passing an appropriate assessment and the availability of a place.
We expect pupils to enter the School in their correct age group as defined by the Department for Education although we do make occasional exceptions, as explained in our Admissions Policy.
Normal Entry Points
Our normal entry points are:
- Lower Prep: the Reception Year (age 4+)
- Upper Prep: Year 3 (age 7+)
- Senior School: First Form/Year 7 (age 11+) and Third Form/Year 9 (age 13+)
- Sixth Form: Lower Sixth Form/Year 12 (age 16+)
We allow entry into other year groups and/or at times other than September when space permits.
Assessment for Entry
We select children in ways that are appropriate to their age. Our assessments aim to stretch and challenge candidates in an interesting way so that candidates can present themselves in the best possible light. For younger Prep School candidates there is also an element of fun.
In all cases we are looking for evidence of the academic ability or potential ability to enjoy the breadth and pace of our teaching. For those wishing to enter the Upper Prep (age 7 and above) or the Senior School (age 11 and above), we also seek a genuine desire to contribute fully to and benefit from the vibrant extra-curricular life of our School, including at weekends.
Depending on whether you are planning for your child to join us at the start of September or at another time of year, we will follow slightly different selection steps. See:
Assistance with Fees
We offer scholarships and assistance with fees (in the form of bursaries) from age 11. For further information see:
If you would like your child to be considered for entry, we require a completed Registration Form and a non-returnable Registration Fee of £100 (£150 for non-EU nationals) to cover our administration expenses. Please contact our Registrar, Mrs Rosie White, if you wish to discuss your child’s admission into our School.
