    Sciences - Autumn 2019

Our Sciences Masterclasses aim to bring together like-minded Year 5 children (Year 6 in the Autumn Term) from local primary schools to work through a variety of stimulating scientific investigations using techniques and equipment that are not usually available to children of this age.

In Autumn Term 2019  we will be holding two identical courses (‘Fitzpiers’ and ‘Stafford’).  Each course will comprise six sessions of 90 minutes duration, with two sessions focussing of each of the sciences. Taught by subject specialists, the courses will run in parallel but will complete the sessions in a different order to each other.
The dates are in the table below.  Please note that the timings are different to those for the Mathematics and the History and English Masterclasses.  The first meeting will start with a short briefing for parents.

Although each session is independent of the others, we expect children to attend all of the Masterclasses in their course.  There is no charge but places are limited and we cannot guarantee a place for every child who applies.

We have written to head teachers of participating schools to invite them to nominate suitable children.  The deadline for applications is has now passed; we will confirm offers of places by the evening of Thursday 11 July. Our next series after this one will be for 2019-20 Year 5 pupils in Spring Term 2020 and we will write to head teachers of participating schools in November.

Joining instructions for successful applicants plus an aide-memoire for parents will be added below in July.
