    Maths Information (Reception)

Children in Reception are given rich opportunities inside and outdoors to develop a deep understanding of numbers to 10 including the recall of number bonds, addition, subtraction, doubling and halving facts.

They are expected to verbally count beyond 20, recognising the pattern of the counting system. The children explore and represent patterns and compare quantities in different contexts developing their mathematical vocabulary. Mathematics homework is set to reinforce what has been taught in school.

We believe it is important that children develop positive attitudes and interests in mathematics, look for patterns and relationships, spot connections, ‘have a go’, talk to adults and peers about what they notice and not be afraid to make mistakes.
