    Joining Lower Prep (4+)

A child’s early experience of school is key to developing a positive and confident attitude to learning, to work and to other people. The foundations laid in the earliest years of our Prep School stay with our pupils throughout their education.

Our Lower Prep gives our 4 to 7 year olds a happy, secure and purposeful start in an exciting, caring environment.  Our small classes, with a single age group in each class, allow plenty of individual attention from our dedicated and talented teachers and nursery nurses, ensuring that everyone gets a good grounding in the basic skills.

Our teaching is imaginative and fun, and fully exploits our exceptional facilities and our wonderful setting within Kimbolton School’s parklands and playing fields.  Our rich, challenging curriculum enables children to perform at their developmental, rather than chronological age.  The children learn in a wide variety of ways, including from each other, and have plenty of opportunity to play and explore.  Age appropriate visits and trips support classroom-based learning of many of our topics.

As the children progress, we introduce specialist teaching in many areas including science, modern foreign languages, music, ICT, swimming and PE.  Every child gives performances on stage from Reception onwards, and strings tuition becomes optional from Year 1. Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and also starts at Year 1.

Lunch is a sociable event each day when staff and pupils enjoy a hot, nourishing meal prepared on-site by our team of chefs.  Kim Club is an important part of our school community and extends the day, opening at 7.45am and finishing at 6pm. Most of our families use Kim Club on a regular or ad hoc basis. Our coach system is used exclusively by Kimbolton pupils and is therefore suitable for use by even the youngest children.
