Tours & Open Days
Kimbolton Castle will be open to the public on Sunday 6 March 2022, 1pm to 4pm. Learn more about the mediaeval castle, Queen Katharine of Aragon, the Civil War, the 'Great Rebuilding' by Vanbrugh ... and even the Castle ghosts! There will also be a display about the American forces in Kimbolton during the Second World War. You will be able to visit all the State Rooms including the Queen’s Room where Katharine of Aragon died, as well as the dedicated Heritage Room which traces the history of the Castle from its Motte and Bailey beginnings to its present-day incarnation as one of Cambridgeshire's top co-educational schools.
Although the Castle now belongs to Kimbolton School, visitors can still see the impressive range of State Rooms, with an outstanding set of murals by Pellegrini. A small Heritage Room houses a display on the Castle's history. This British historic Castle is set in extensive, wooded grounds, with pleasant walks within rural Cambridgeshire.
Kimbolton Castle is open to groups by arrangement throughout the year, including evenings, although access during Kimbolton School terms is restricted by School usage. During school holidays, requests for mid-week visits can usually be met.
The Castle is also open to the general public from 1pm to 4pm on the dates listed below. Members of Kimbolton Local History Society are on hand as room stewards, and short tours of the exterior take place at regular intervals. For children there are animal, Tudor and Victorian trails, and a dressing-up box is also available.
