    Kimbolton School Swimming Lessons

Swimming is one of the most important skills a child can learn. Our Pool staff, all fully qualified ASA swimming instructors, teach all the Prep School children to swim, concentrating on the development of good stroke work before moving any child onto competitive swimming for the School.

Pupils in our Reception classes begin weekly swimming during the SpringTerm with classes structured to develop water confidence and basic skills. Our Prep School Years 1 and  2 children attend swimming lessons once a week from September to July. We divide classes into two groups so that pupils receive the best standard of tuition.

Upper Prep pupils (Years 3 to 6) swim on alternate weeks throughout the school year.  At this stage the lessons concentrate on fine-tuning their stoke technique.  We also introduce them to basic water safety coupled with lifesaving skills.  We have an after-school Swimming Club which prepares children for competitive galas against other schools.

In the First to Fifth Forms of the Senior School, pupils swim for half a school term twice a year.  The PE Department staff teach these lessons.  We also have a Senior School swimming club, which meets every Thursday. The club is taught by an experienced ASA Coach and competes in inter-school galas.

Outside school hours and during the holidays, all Kimbolton School pupils are entitled to free use of swimming pool during the public swimming sessions  (entry is dependent on the age and pool restrictions applicable to individual sessions).  During the school day pupils have access to lunch time sessions depending on the pool timetable.

A qualified lifeguard on poolside supervises all lessons and sessions.
