Royal Opera Soloist Olle Zetterström Sings WIth Pupils at Kimbolton Preparatory SchoolWith just five weeks to go until the Upper Prep Christmas Carol Service, Royal Opera soloist Olle Zetterström visited Kimbolton yesterday to share some top singing tips with pupils in Years 3 to 6.

The Swedish bass, a member of the Royal Opera Chorus in Covent Garden, didn’t start singing until he was 18 years old – and firmly believes that everyone can find their voice, given the right training.

As well as performing a rousing rendition of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, sung solo and later together with the pupils, Mr Zetterström answered probing questions from the children. These covered a wide range of musical topics, including warming up techniques and how to control long notes.

He said: “It’s a privilege coming to Kimbolton to sing with such young and promising talent. I was expecting the pupils to be more reserved but they were willing to take a risk and they sounded wonderful. They’re in great hands with Mrs Eddon, who is an inspiring music teacher.”

Mrs Sally Eddon, Head of Prep Music, added: “Three quarters of our Upper Prep pupils choose to take part in Choir each week. It’s been a wonderful experience for them to listen to a professional opera singer and pick up some tips in time for the festive season.”

The Upper Prep Carol Service takes place at St Andrew’s Church, Kimbolton, on Thursday 11 December at 14:00. See you there!
