28.09.15: Daisy Wins National Showjumping Title

Daisy McKinlay has won a national showjumping title after completing an impressive double clear on her pony Cranford Jack at the British Showjumping National Championships in Warwickshire.

The Fourth Former, who regularly represents our school at equestrian events and is currently ranked number 1 in the East Midlands area, competed against thousands of riders this year to qualify for the final of the Pony Silver League 148cm and Under, jumping at a height of 1.25m. Out of eighteen competitors in the final, nine went through to a nail-biting jump off – but it was Daisy who completed the first double clear of the class and held on to the lead time of 35 seconds.

The 14-year-old’s success comes hot on the hooves of School team triumph at the Royal Windsor Horse Show this summer, when our team of Daisy, Minnie Jackson, Sophia Farrington and Lucy Price took 8th place out of 32 teams in the Inter Schools Showjumping Competition.

Daisy, who fits horse care and training around a busy school day, is now looking ahead to GB team selection trials in Wales next May. She said: “My aim is to compete at 1.30m plus and to gain as much experience as I can.”

Mrs Lucy King, Kimbolton School Equestrian Team Manager added: “Daisy has trained very hard in order to win the national title, and we are hoping she can replicate this success for the school at the National Schools’ Equestrian Association Championships in October.

“Our equestrian teams have all got off to a great start this term - mention must also be made of Sophia Farrington who has been selected to represent the East of England at the British Eventing National Under-18 Championships at Weston Park.”
