Romans and Celts Invade the Prep

Kimbolton School Roman Day 2015As part of their history studies, Year 4 pupils dressed up for ‘Roman Day’ this week as all the thrills and excitement of the Roman arena were brought to life in the school hall.

Our ‘Portals to the Past’ workshop focused on life in Britain under the Pax Romana as well as the wider empire. Children explored the dramatic change in the lifestyle of even the lowliest of citizens after the arrival of the Roman legion, with real Roman artefacts providing a hands-on experience of history.

Activities included a Roman quiz, a maths-based game, Delta (using Roman numerals), a display of Roman and Celtic weapons and armour, and a walk through Boudicca’s final battle with the Romans. The highlight of the day was a gladiator show, where pupils took on the roles of Emperor, citizens, slaves –  and gladiators!
