Eight Senior School pupils from our top maths groups in the Third, Fourth and Fifth forms have been awarded Gold certificates in the UK Mathematics Trust’s Intermediate Maths Challenge.

Third Former Andrew Dowdell-Stent, Fourth Former Laurence Turvey, and Fifth Formers Sadira Pyne-Bailey, Taylor Harrison, Joe Lee, Christopher Oliver, Anushka Shukla and Kaine Street also each received a coveted mechanical pencil from our Head of Maths, Mr Jessup.

Around 200,000 pupils aged 14 to 16 took part in this year’s annual competition, which is aimed at pupils in Year 11 or below and involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour at school, under normal exam conditions.

Further congratulations go to Andrew and Christopher, whose high scores in round one meant they were invited to sit the follow-on European Kangaroo papers, taken by pupils from over 30 countries worldwide. Both pupils achieved a Merit.
