OK footballers played their way to the semi-finals of the Arthurian League Junior Cup with a 3-2 win at home on Saturday 24 February against the Old Etonians.  To reach this stage the team have beaten the Old Wellingburians, Old Albanians, Old Chigwellians and Old Carthusians III (walkover).  With four previous games having been played at home, it was with much anticipation that the team took to the Heath Field (the 1st XI pitch) in Kimbolton...

What a start! Following a deserved free kick for a tackle on Rory Fenton in the first minute, a floated  ball into the box from 25 yards out was met with a George Wilson header to set up Sam Findlay with another header from a yard out ... 1-0 !!!

The team were up for the Cup and Kimbolton dominated the first 10 mins with chances coming thick and fast. With James Dunmore on the right and Sam Findlay on the left causing real danger by taking on and beating defenders it looked like it might be a case of how many.  However, the Etonians first real chance of the game came when the ball was hooked into the far corner following a throw in, giving Jonny Bowers in goal no chance. So despite the OK's dominance it counted for nothing: 1-1!

It didn't take long for Kimbolton to re-take the lead as we had been causing trouble in the six yard box with long throws and corners.  Their goal keeper couldn't hang on to yet another close range shot and James Dunmore was on hand to finish from close range. 2-1 Kimbolton!!  The pitch looked immaculate but with a breeze and a hard and uneven surface following the frost it was not conducive to easy to pass football. Eton were always competitive and the ball started to bounce their way and upfront from corners they looked a danger. Half Time 2-1

Captain George Wilson had been making good use of the roll on roll off subs with Peter Taine, Josh Eddon and Oli Knell exchanging places. Jack Kenmir's arrival after a drive from London (he had his own team to take in the morning as a schoolmaster) gave chance for a tactical change.  Jack took his place at centre back with the excellent  Rob Holmes pushing on into midfield alongside the combative  James Belbin for the beginning of the  second half.   Eton were no pushover and always felt they could force a chance or two . They were winning their fair share of 50/50's.  Jonny Bowers was tested on a few occasions and he started to claim the ball with real authority on high balls to take pressure off the defence.  He could do nothing about their equaliser however on about 60 mins - a finish from 8 yards out.  2-2.!!

With the  possibility of the cup run coming to an end, it seemed to bring the best out of the side.  Sam Findlay has tormented all of the teams we have played this season with his talent and he started to see more of the ball. He was a real threat with his dribbling skills.  Rory Fenton was holding the ball up well and, with Rob Holmes, a real driving force in midfield.  Both full backs, Matt Greenland and Will Kenmir, were getting forward and winning their battles. Jack Kenmir and George Wilson were commanding at the back and were assured in all they did.  James Dunmore's fitness and competitiveness was an asset all afternoon.  It was through a good move from the back, Rory Fenton holding the ball up before sending it wide to Matt Greenland and and then on to Sam Findlay before slipping the ball to Rob Holmes on a  surging run  that his deflected shot found the net and a deserved winner!!!!!! 3-2.

The OK's played out the last 10 minutes in good style.   FINAL SCORE -  Kimbolton WIN 3-2 !
