    A "Flying Musical Start"

Distinction in ABRSM exam for Lower Prep Violinist.

Congratulations to Prep School violinist Zita, who has achieved a coveted Distinction in her Grade 1 violin exam. Seven-year-old Zita, in Year 2 at the time, is the first Lower Prep pupil to take an Associated Board Music Exam - to pass with Distinction is a fantastic result.

Head of Prep Music Mrs Sally Eddon said: “Zita is a ‘graduate’ of our Year 1 Stringlets and Year 2 Ministrings sessions and is proof that these are proving a very successful tool to get our youngsters off to a flying musical start!”

At the Senior end of our school, talented Christopher passed his Grade 8 ABRSM Flute exam with Distinction and was awarded a Music Exhibition. An Exhibition was also re-awarded, at a higher grade, to Emma (Grade 6 piano, Merit). A further 4 Senior pupils achieved Distinctions: Milly, Grade 3, Singing; Rebecca, Grade 1, Piano; Lawrence, Grade 3, French horn; and Isabel, Grade 1, Violin.

Exhibitions, in the form of four terms of instrumental tuition funded by the School, are awarded to all those who pass exams at Grade 5 or above with a Merit or a Distinction. On achieving each higher grade, the Exhibition is re-awarded. All Exhibition recipients are expected to be active members of one or more school ensembles so that, while experiencing the fun of performing with others, their music-making experience and repertoire are extended.
