    University and Careers Advice

We encourage all of our pupils to look ahead and be in a position to make good, informed choices about their futures. We have excellent resources in the Careers Room in the Castle, which is open to pupils at all times.

Formal Careers education is in three phases:
    1. In the Third to Fifth Forms, taught by the Head of Careers as part of the PSHE programme. Pupils have three lessons in the course of a year.
    1. From the Fifth Form, through membership of the Morrisby scheme. All pupils undertake an online profiling test at the end of the Fourth Form, which results in a personal Careers Guidance Report. This is the basis for an individual, half-hour interview with a visiting Careers Guidance Institute-qualified interviewer early in the Fifth Form.  Morrisby membership gives our pupils access to a lifelong range of  resources and guidance.
    1. In the Sixth Form, in preparation for University application.  All Lower Sixth Formers are allocated to a University Adviser, who supervises their UCAS application. Time is set aside in Citizenship during the summer term for an ‘Introduction to University’ programme, and students are encouraged to research their options for Higher Education.  A large majority of our Upper Sixth Form students go on to university, some after a gap year, while a handful each year go straight into employment.

    HE, Gap and Careers Fair

To bring employers, professional bodies and pupils together, we host an annual HE, Gap and Careers Fair with around 40 stalls for students to visit. Our Careers team is always keen to hear from parents and OKs willing to offer their expertise.

Pupils and parents are always welcome in the Careers Room to research and discuss careers options. Appointments are not necessary, and our Head of Careers is available at all reasonable hours!

We do not operate a formal Work Experience programme but do, of course, encourage and support all pupils to arrange work experience, where possible, in the school holidays.
