Our Team
Our Health Centre team provides care to pupils and staff at both the Prep and Senior Schools. Our healthcare staff members are all trained nurses and have experience in various medical specialities.
What We Do
With flexible staff cover, we offer emotional and physical nursing care to everyone, working within our codes of conduct and confidentiality. For any pupil with a medical concern, we work closely with the parents and the young person to understand their needs and any implication this may have on their school life.
We look after day pupils who may be unwell during the school day, until they can be collected by family, and also provide first aid for any injuries. So long as we have received written consent plus dosage instructions, we administer medication to pupils of all ages at break times and lunch.
The nursing team work closely with all the boarding house staff to ensure the well-being of the boarding community. This includes providing medical care and advice to pupils in the Health Centre in routine opening hours; visiting pupils in the boarding houses if the house staff are of the opinion that the pupil needs to be cared for in the house; and providing an on-call service for out-of-hours queries and care. On occasions when no cover nurse is available, boarding staff ring directly to the NHS (111 or 999). Staff cover is available should an adult need to accompany a boarding pupil to hospital.
We can offer advice on a wide range of health issues to everyone on the school campus and have good support from the health professionals at our local surgery, Kimbolton Medical Centre.
Our Facilities
At the Prep School, we have a nurse on duty throughout the school day. We have a suite of rooms at the Upper Prep to provide first aid and minor injury assessment, plus a quiet area for resting. At the Lower Prep, we have an area for immediate first aid.
At the Senior School Health Centre, we have a number of rooms that together provide space for confidential care and advice for the pupils, staff and visitors.
When Your Child is Unwell or Injured
We endeavour to make contact with parents as soon as possible when a pupil is unwell, by phone call or email, and then care for the child until they are collected. We also work closely with class teachers at the Prep School and tutors, house masters and mistresses at the Senior School to keep them informed whenever possible about the health and well-being of the young people in their care during the school day.
