Triumph for Twin Musicians
Exam success and Music Colours for Prep pupils Georgina and Archie.
Congratulations to musical twins Georgina and Archie, who have been awarded Prep Music Colours following successful Associated Board examinations at the end of last term. At Grade 3 Georgina achieved a Merit on the violin and Archie a Distinction on the trumpet – an amazing standard to reach at the age of 10! Mrs Sally Eddon, Head of Prep Music, said: “We were delighted with the results from this recent set of external music exams. All of our candidates were successful, with 70% of exams taken achieving Merit or Distinction marks.”
Excellence and progress in music is celebrated across our school with the award of Music Colours and Music Exhibitions. Colours, in the form of a lapel badge, are given to Upper Prep pupils who commit to long-term, consistent practice, participate in musical ensembles, perform regularly in public, and achieve good marks in examinations at Grade 3 or above. Exhibitions comprise four terms of instrumental tuition, funded by the School, for all those at the Prep and Senior School who pass exams at Grade 5 or above with a Merit or a Distinction.
The twins are now busy rehearsing for the Prep Spring Concert on 12 February, which showcases all of our weekly extra-curricular music groups as well as two choirs and some soloists. With 165 Upper Prep pupils performing it should be a fantastic evening. Pupils and parents are also welcome to attend a recital by visiting music teacher Mr Stephen Meakins, on 6 March in the Hunter Hall, to celebrate the generous donation of a Yamaha baby grand piano by the Glover family.
Towards the end of term, listen out for 'Pop-up Music' in the Prep Foyer (18-22 March). With live music every morning from 8.30am – 8.55am and an appearance by Rise and Sing, our whole school adult singing group, it's sure to give everyone an uplifting start to the day!"
