Success in British Physics Olympiad
Sixth Formers achieve Silver and Bronze awards in national competition.
Four Upper Sixth Form physicists were successful in the recent British Physics Olympiad. Umar Chaudhari and Joe Lee were awarded Silver certificates, while Taylor Harrison and Andrew Lawrence received Bronze ones in the national competition, which is designed to stretch and challenge the UK’s top young scientific minds.
Students are required to sit a series of demanding papers that test their knowledge beyond the A Level syllabus. Nearly 2000 individuals entered the Olympiad this year; the results put 18-year-olds Umar and Joe in the top 200 young physicists in the country – an impressive achievement.
Following A Levels this summer, all four students hope to continue their studies at university. Umar and Andrew have applied for Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering courses, Taylor for Economics and Maths, and Joe for Maths and Philosophy.
Well done all of you!
