Kimbolton is the third best school in Cambridgeshire for A Level results, and one of England’s top schools for improving pupils’ academic performance, according to the latest Department for Education statistics. The government’s newly-released performance tables measure both attainment in public examinations, as well as the progress pupils make between GCSE and A Level.
The figures show that pupils at Kimbolton scored an average of 43.7 points per A Level entry in 2018 - the equivalent to a grade B+. This places us third on the table for Cambridgeshire secondary schools and colleges (state and independent), just behind The Perse School and The Stephen Perse Foundation.
Meanwhile our ‘progress score’ (also known as ‘value added’) puts us easily in the top 5% of state and independent schools, in the top three HMC schools, and ranks us 22nd out of 742 independent schools nationwide.
Importantly, this progress score takes into account where each of our students started at the end of Fifth Form and the progress they made compared to similar students in schools and colleges across England. This means that whether a student is academically gifted or of more modest ability, we help them fulfil their potential and achieve the best possible A Level results for them.
The data supports the view that our pupils are happy, motivated and encouraged to aim high, all while developing into interesting young adults. As The Good Schools Guide notes: “Pupils can spend their whole education at Kimbolton enjoying the benefits of a happy environment, small class sizes and excellent pastoral care.”
Headmaster Mr Jonathan Belbin said: “Our value added scores have been consistently impressive in these annual performance tables, underlining the quality of a Kimbolton education. With outstanding teachers, individual support and a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities, we really do add value both in and out of the classroom.”
