    Mathematicians Through to National Final

Victory for Kimbolton in the Regional Heat of the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Maths Team Challenge.

Sixth Form Mathematicians are through to the National Final of the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Maths Team Challenge. Team members Andrew Dowdell-Stent, Thomas Hurrell,  Laurence Turvey and Alistair Severn earned their place after beating 15 other teams, including King’s Ely (2nd) and Stamford School (3rd) at the Regional Heat in Peterborough.

Kimbolton Maths teacher Mr Andrew Wilkinson said: “Students had to answer a variety of tricky Maths questions under significant time pressures, over three rounds. At the break we were a few points behind the leaders, but put in a stunningly good relay score in the final round to claim victory. The team now go on to the National Final in London on 4th February.”

Mention must also be made of the Sixth Formers who achieved a sought-after Gold certificate in the solo UKMT Senior Maths Challenge: Andrew Dowdell Stent, Kobe Grant, Thomas Hurrell, Max Proietti, Alistair Severn and Laurence Turvey.  This 90-minute, multiple-choice competition is open to students across the UK and encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
