Five Kimbolton Prep pupils participated in the annual Cambridgeshire Cross Country Championships held at Priory Park, St Neots on 5 January in cool but dry conditions.

Year 6 Jemima was aiming for a hat-trick of county titles but was running as an u13. Despite being in 2nd place at the half-way point, Jemima put in a strong kick just before the start of a 200m long downhill section to pull 10m clear. This sudden attack caught her closest rival unaware and she gradually opened up a sizeable gap to win by 20 seconds for her 3rd consecutive county title.

Excitingly, the win also meant that Jemima is invited to represent the county to run in the televised Virgin Mini London Marathon in April – running the last three miles on the day of the main race.

Also competing were Rafferty and Henry in the u11 boys' race. Both can be seriously proud of their performances since they were racing against boys two years their senior. Grit and determination were apparent throughout the 1.7k course where Rafferty finished an impressive 6th place and Henry 24th from 32 runners.

Following strong runs at House cross-country, Year 4 Tiggy (Girls' u11) battled it out against the county’s best to finish in a fine 7th place. In the u13 boys' event, despite a lack of training owing to a bout of ill-health, Oliver ran with fervour to finish in 32nd place from 45 runners.

The strong performance from all our runners bodes well for success in the upcoming cross-country season this term.
