Maths Team Placed Third in UK

Senior School Mathematicians put in a strong performance at the recent international NÁBOJ online competition.

Two teams of Sixth Formers put in a strong performance at the recent international NÁBOJ online competition. Alistair, Andrew, Josh, Joseph and Toby came 3rd in the UK and 156th internationally, out of 363 schools. Meanwhile Alice, Ishan, James, Max and Musa finished the competition 18th in the UK.

The 2-hour competition, organised by universities in Europe and the UK including Cambridge, Edinburgh and Glasgow, involves teams of five students trying to solve as many given problems as possible within the time limit. NÁBOJ problems require inventiveness and ingenuity; success in the competition does not just depend on individual abilities but also on efficient teamwork and cooperation. Apart from enhancing imagination and logical reasoning, the aim is to showcase the endless beauty hidden in mathematics.

Kimbolton School Head of Mathematics, Mr Adam Jessup said: “This is a very challenging competition and our teams did very well. To put the results into perspective, the winning team from Krakov managed 46 correct answers, the winning team in the UK managed 31. Our teams managed 23 and 12.”
