    Kimbolton Dancers to Represent England

Talented Senior School dancers Emma H and Cordelia have been selected to represent England at the Dance World Cup 2021.

Two talented Senior School dancers have been selected to represent England at the Dance World Cup (DWC) 2021. Sixth Former Cordelia will be taking part as a soloist, while Third Former Emma H is part of a modern dance squad from Bedford’s Elev8 Studios.

Emma, who has been dancing since she was aged four, enjoys a range of dance styles including ballet, tap, modern dance and acrobatic arts. Her team’s performance piece, Arachni, won plaudits and high scores at qualifying festivals across the country, pre-pandemic. The 14 year old joined Kimbolton in September last year and says she is looking forward to taking part in extra-curricular dance and drama opportunities when restrictions allow. During lockdown her training has moved online, but the dedicated dancer usually fits in eight classes a week around her schoolwork.

Meanwhile Cordelia, who is currently studying for A Levels in English Literature, Drama and Physical Education, has qualified in four DWC categories: Senior Tap Solo The Cup Song; Senior National Solo St Johns Eve; Senior Tap Trio Messing with Fire; and Senior National Trio Masadonia. The 18 year old has been dancing since she was two and a half years old, and has competed with great success as a group dancer at the event for the past five years. Her previous accolades include fourth places in commercial, ballet and national groups, as well as a fifth place in modern groups. A popular and committed performer in many School dance and drama productions, she reveals: “My aim is to go into film and musical theatre and I’m currently auditioning for musical theatre school.”

The Dance World Cup is the most prestigious all-genre international dance competition for children and young adults, attracting over 120,000 competitors from 62 countries. Emma adds: “My team have been working towards this for years and some of my older team-mates were in Team England two years ago, so expectations and excitement are high. I’m a bit nervous but am really looking forward to it.”

The competition is due to take place in Burgos, Spain from 2nd - 10th July. Good luck, Emma and Cordelia!
