Award for Student Entrepreneurs
Business-minded Sixth Formers impress Dragons’ Den’s Peter Jones CBE with their range of children’s activity kits.
Congratulations to team 'Kit 4 Kids', KS5 category winners of the national Tycoon Enterprise Competition. Sixth Formers Daisy, Millie and Mya received their award at Hampton Court Palace on Friday 22 September, where they were presented with a trophy by competition founder and BBC Dragons’ Den panellist Peter Jones CBE.
Taking advantage of the demand for eco-friendly products, the students produced activity kits for children which keep the footprint on the environment as minimal as possible. Their product range included three kits for gardening, baking, and jewellery, all designed to encourage children to take time away from technology and try new hobbies. The competition saw over 300 student businesses taking part across the UK.
Peter Jones CBE, Chairman of Peter Jones Foundation said: “It was truly inspiring to see all student entrepreneurs at the Tycoon Awards ceremony. Since the start of the Tycoon programme, the Peter Jones Foundation has given over £700,000 in start-up loans. It has been incredible to see the students develop through the programme, well done to everyone.”
Kimbolton School Head of Business and Economics, Mrs Jacqui Powell, added: “I’m thrilled that one of our teams has taken the KS5 title. I’ve been really impressed with the girls’ creativity, planning, entrepreneurship, and teamwork.”
Tycoon is a unique national enterprise competition for students aged 6 to 18. Each participating team writes a business plan, is lent money (repayable when the company breaks even), starts a business and competes with other student companies across the UK.
