Oscar L., from Cambridgeshire  embarked on an extraordinary journey through the bustling arteries of the London Underground at the weekend (12 May), challenging himself to visit at least 200 different stations to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. His charitable endeavour was in honour of his beloved Granny who recently died from Myeloma. 

Driven by a profound connection to the cause, Oscar’s determination shone through on the day. Navigating the labyrinthine network of the capital’s tunnels and platforms, he successfully conquered 222 stations in less than 14.5 hours.

Oscar, in Year 10 , had hoped to undertake the challenge back in 2020, but his plans were cancelled due to the pandemic. He also completed a trial run back in 2023, but only managed to get round 197 stations. Originally, Oscar set himself a modest fundraising target of £500, but has been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of friends, family and well-wishers. Currently, he has raised over £1,400 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Commenting, Oscar said: “I’m blown away by the incredible support I’ve received. Every single donation brings us one step closer to making a difference to the lives of those affected by cancer. After losing my own Granny to Myeloma in 2023, and having my Grandad diagnosed with prostate cancer, this is my way of thanking the people who are trying to find a cure and supporting patients!”

Oscar is a seasoned fundraiser, who has raised money for numerous worthy causes in the past. Most notably, in 2020, he participated in 100 holes of golf to raise funds for Starlight Children’s Foundation – a national charity that supports children’s play in healthcare. As an ambassador for the charity, he also took to the stage at CarFest in 2019 and 2021 to help raise awareness of the cause and support the charity to raise a staggering total of over £250,000.
