    Economics Competition Success

Sixth Form student is top of UK Economic Research Council's ‘Clash of the Titans’ leaderboard.

Sixth Form Economics student Katie is top of the national leaderboard in the Economic Research Council's tenth annual ‘Clash of the Titans’ competition. The event invites three thought-leaders in economics in the UK to give their expert opinions and predictions for the UK economy in 2022 – before opening up the competition to students and members of the public. The three Titans, and all entrants, are asked to predict figures for GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, earnings growth and interest rates, as well as a ‘black swan event’ which could upset their forecasts.

In Kimbolton’s third year of entering the competition there are currently five of our students in the top 10 – out of several hundred candidates. Katie is leading the table, Joe is 4th=, Ethan and Tadi are 6th=, and Oscar is in 10th.  This year’s ‘Titans’ are Dr Linda Yueh, Economist, Broadcaster, and Author; Professor Douglas McWilliams, Executive Deputy Chairman, CEBR; and Dilip Shah – Clash of the Titans Best Performer.

Kimbolton Head of Economics Mr Jon Saunders said: “This is a promising start for our students in this exciting forecasting competition – and Kimbolton is the leading school in the competition to date. However, with three more quarterly reports to come, places can quickly change on the leaderboard!”
