Gold Awards for Sixth Form Mathematicians

Students celebrate success in UK Mathematics Trust Senior Mathematical Challenge.

Congratulations to Sixth Form Mathematicians Benjy, Bradley, Daniel, India, Nathan, Sam, Tim, and Vukasin who all achieved coveted Gold certificates in the first round of the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Mathematical Challenge earlier this term. They have all qualified for the follow-on round on 16th November, and additionally win one of Mr Jessup’s mechanical pencils.

The Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute, multiple-choice challenge, designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The top 66% of students nationally receive Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ratio 3:2:1.

Around 1,000 of the highest performers are then invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 and around 6,000 to take part in the Senior Kangaroo. The very best go on to represent their country in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
