Kimbolton School U6th Students Visit Buckingham Palace for Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award celebration
Last week, six outstanding U6th students from Kimbolton School had the honour of attending the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ‘Gold Celebration Event’ at Buckingham Palace.
India, Hannah, Archie, Lauren, Rosie, Izzy, Callum, Lloyd and Talia were amongst the first cohort of 20 students from the Upper 6th Form who successfully completed their DofE Gold Award.
Accompanied by proud parents, the students were presented to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward. Reflecting on the experience, Mrs Cove, who accompanied her daughter Lauren, expressed her delight, saying, "It was a glorious day on Friday, and they all enjoyed the experience. None of us expected to be speaking to the Duke of Edinburgh. When you hear that only 0.1% of 18–25-year-olds achieve DofE Gold, it certainly puts the award into perspective."
The students, under the guidance and support of Tony Lucas, Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager, dedicated significant effort and time to complete the demanding DofE Gold Award programme. Mrs Cove extended her gratitude, stating, "I would like to personally thank Tony Lucas for all his work, commitment, and time helping and supporting the pupils through the programme. Our school is extremely lucky to have Tony... it was definitely a 'proud parents' day for all of us."
The event marked a significant achievement for Kimbolton School, showcasing the dedication, resilience, and accomplishments of its students. The experience at Buckingham Palace will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory for all the pupils and their families, reflecting the school's commitment to fostering excellence and personal development amongst its students.
