Izzy Impresses in Young Chef Competition
Fourth Form GCSE Food and Nutrition pupil through to regional final of Rotary cooking contest.
Fourth Form GCSE Food & Nutrition pupils Izzy and Abbie used their culinary skills to create a healthy and tasty three-course meal in the district round of the Rotary Young Chef competition.
The annual event is aimed at teenagers, aged from 13-17, who must produce a nutritious three-course meal for two from scratch with a budget of £20. The meals are judged on criteria including presentation, taste, and preparation techniques.
The heat took place at The George in Buckden under the guidance of the hotel’s Head Chef, and the winner was Izzy. Her menu consisted of a starter of loaded potato skins with crisp bacon and soured cream; a main of chilli con carne served with white and wild rice, and a corn salad; and a delicious dessert of meringue topped with double cream, raspberry coulis and raspberries. Izzy now goes through to the regional finals at Stamford School on 5th February.
Food and Nutrition teacher Mrs Johnson said: “Both Izzy and Abbie worked in a calm and extremely organised way to produce some stunning dishes. It was a close competition.”
