Over the last 3 years the OKA have sponsored several OKs in their pursuit of a particular personal venture. To give you an idea of the initiatives that we are interested in supporting, here's a brief summary of some of those that we have previously supported:
|Colin Lee (OK 87) ran the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - a 105 mile circuit taking in France, Italy and Switzerland, with 10,000m of ascent and descent. The time limit for the event is 46 hours (meaning that most runners have to run through 2 nights) and Colin completed it in just under 42 hours. He ran the trail in aid of Fight for Sight and MS Society.|
Kiri Saunders (OK 12) moved to Honduras after completing her degree, to teach in Abundant Life Christian Schools. The OKA donated money towards basic resources - colouring pencils, books, paint, clothes, vitamin C tables - that Kiri took with her for the school and for a local orphanage.
Ed Williams (OK 05) is swimming the Oceans Seven Challenge - a challenge that consists of seven long-distance open-water swims. It includes the North Channel, the Cook Strait, the Molokai Channel, the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, the Tsugaru Strait and the Strait of Gibraltar. He completed the Gibralta Strait in April 2015 and in 2016 Ed completed a solo swim of the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland, raising £10,000 for Wateraid.
|Jessica Coppins (OK 16) left Kimbolton in July 2016 and is spending a gap year teaching disadvantaged children in a rural community in South Africa with the Project Trust Charity. Project Trust require all their volunteers to achieve a certain level of fundraising before they go and the OKA helped Jess reach her target.|
How do I apply?
Applications should be made in writing detailing comprehensive information of the project, including:
- timescales involved
- charity registration number (if applicable)
- planned outcome / personal achievement
All donations will be given on the basis that, on completion of their venture, the individual will provide the OKA with a written report on their experience and would be happy for the information to be published on the OK website and in the OK News magazine.
Applications will be considered twice a year and deadlines are 15th April and 30th November.
If you would like any further information, please contact Helen Hopperton.
